Volunteers
Volunteers are key components to successful response and recovery following a disaster. After the historic flooding and tornadoes hit Iowa in 2008, the Iowa Volunteer and Donations Committee reported more than 33,800 individuals volunteered their time and services for more than 798,400 hours. This totals $12.4 million of in-kind contributions through volunteerism. However, the work is not done.

Donations
People affected by the disasters need a great deal of assistance to rebuild their homes and lives. Iowans and those outside the state have been very generous with donations of goods and money totaling over $30 million.
