The Rebuild Iowa Office and the Rebuild Iowa Advisory Commission do not provide direct disaster assistance. However, below is information on where to obtain assistance if you have been a victim of the 2008 disasters.

If you do not currently have housing:

Please contact FEMA at 1-800-621-3362 immediately.

Housinginiowa.org – An online resource for rental housing opportunities around Iowa. Iowans cans use this site to find affordable and market-rate rental units. Property managers are encouraged to visit the site and list units for rent.

If you are feeling overwhelmed, depressed or suicidal:

First, please know that these feelings are normal after experiencing or witnessing disaster and loss. There are people and resources ready to help you.

Project Recovery Iowa – A mental health program administered by the Iowa Department of Human Services that provides free crisis counseling to Iowans affected by this year's natural disasters. To reach a counselor, call the Iowa Concern Hotline at 1-800-447-1985. The call is free and confidential. Information is also available through the Project Recovery Iowa Web site.

Rural Iowa families can also seek free counseling sessions with Sowing the Seeds of Hope through the Iowa State University Extention office.

Iowa Legal Aid is a non-profit social services agency which serves low-income Iowans. Iowa Legal Aid attorneys are available to assist qualified Iowans struggling to recover from the recent natural disasters by providing:

  • Advice on how to apply for Federal Assistance; help with appeals of denials of Federal Assistance; information on programs available to disaster victims
  • Assistance with housing related legal issues arising due to weather related damage
  • Advice on submitting or pursuing insurance claims
  • Representation in any civil legal matter relating to the disasters
