PUBLIC ASKED TO SHARE OPINIONS ON FLOOD PLAIN MANAGEMENT
Flood Plain Management Survey Now Available Online; Speak Up Iowa II Survey Ends Oct. 5
(DES MOINES) – Several surveys on the Rebuild Iowa Office (RIO) Web site are allowing the public to provide feedback. Starting now through Oct. 8, a survey examining draft recommendations on how to manage Iowa flood plains is available at www.rio.iowa.gov. Meanwhile, the public has until Monday to fill out the RIO’s Speak Up Iowa II survey, which gathers opinions about the overall disaster recovery effort and assistance programs.
The Flood Plain Subcommittee of the Iowa Water Resources Coordinating Council is conducting a survey to gain public feedback on draft recommendations for flood plains, uplands, lowlands and stormwater management. The recommendations specifically address a watershed management approach to reduce the adverse impact of future flooding on the state’s residents, businesses and communities, as well as on soil and water quality. The flood plain management survey can be found at http://www.rio.iowa.gov/wrcc/survey.html. The public has until October 8 to fill out the survey and submit it via e-mail or fax to the Rebuild Iowa Office. Recommendations will be finalized after considering feedback from the surveys, as well as public input meetings which are currently being held around the state. The recommendations will then be presented to Iowa legislators as directed by House File 756.
Meanwhile, Iowans have until Monday to fill out the RIO’s Speak Up Iowa II survey. This survey is being used to collect opinions on and monitor the success of Iowa’s recovery from the floods and tornadoes of 2008. Since May, the RIO has been conducting the Speak Up Iowa II survey at various community events and gathering feedback via the RIO’s Web site. The Speak Up Iowa II survey is a follow-up to a similar survey regarding unmet needs which was conducted last fall. Once the survey closes, final results will made available in the RIO’s Quarterly Reports. Iowans can fill out the Speak Up Iowa II survey at http://www.rio.iowa.gov/contact/SUI_II.php.
